Jennifer Lawrence States Speaking About Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Dividing the Nation Apart
The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer suitable to comment publicly regarding the Trump presidency, fearing it could intensify polarizing arguments and further divisions across the nation.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says the Actress
In a recent interview, Lawrence shared, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars do not make a difference in any way on voter decisions.”
She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the country apart.”
Shifting Views
The actress has spoken candidly about supporting right and leftwing contenders throughout her life. Growing up with Republican parents in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in 2008 before joining the left-leaning politics and explaining she recognized during the Obama era that voting Republican was voting against her own rights as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she commented that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a catastrophic event” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to the Democratic nominee, “since I feel she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard abortion access.”
Celebrity Views
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the public choices was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
“The second term appears changed,” said Lawrence about Trump’s presidency. “Since he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for four years. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she plays a young mom who faces challenges with her mental health in a remote area. Speaking at a interview session for the movie in the film festival, she addressed the situation in the Middle East: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s occurring is equivalent to a atrocity and it’s horrible.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by stating that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discussions of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the children today. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”
The actor sought to redirect frustration about the conflict to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on the people in charge,” she remarked, in what many took to be a nod to the declaration signed by thousands of arts community members to refuse engagement with Israeli film institutions.
Personal Connections
The actor, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her performance in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her performance in the new film. Even though the director has disputed the story being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, she shared that she identified with parts of her character’s journey after the birth of her youngest child, shortly after production wrapped.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she explained, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was already in therapy, but I began using a medication called that medicine and I used it for two weeks and it really helped.”
Film Challenges
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed of the freeing requirement of completing nude scenes in the movie while she was some months pregnant and couldn’t work out.
“There’s a freedom,” she remarked, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it isn’t a major concern.”
