A Ton of Anime Updates Dropped Over the Holidays

The Yuletide season present a plethora of activities much better than checking the updates: opening presents, getting stuffed on delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to refrain from yelling at relatives. I hope you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy announcements came out during the holidays, and just in case you missed any, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)

Truly the biggest piece of news, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they easily could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which might be a hopeful indicator. Yet, the key visual for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, by now, they must be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now everyone is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Shortly after the airing of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
